Headwaters Tenmile Creek Riparian Restoration Project
Projected Timeline: Spring 2023 - Summer 2026In early 2023, with Lucas SWCD as the project lead, the Headwaters Tenmile Creek Riparian Restoration Project officially began with planning, site assessment and sampling on the project site located in Berkey. This 25-acre project was recommended by the Maumee Area of Concern Advisory Committee and approved by both the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency and the US EPA as one of the priority management action projects to assist in achieving the removal of beneficial use impairments.
The project objectives that are to be completed by Spring 2026 include: restore/stabilize streambank, create riffle habitat, create/enhance riparian buffer, and create a backwater wetland habitat as well as before and after biological sampling for macroinvertebrate and aquatic species presence and improvement. |
Nine-Element Watershed Planning
There are twenty-eight HUC-12 subwatersheds in Lucas County and local, state and federal groups are working to create comprehensive plans to improve water quality in each one. The plans use past water sampling data to highlight areas of unhealthy streams, identify the reasons, and propose projects on the landscape that can prevent polluted runoff. Lucas SWCD and other watershed groups can then seek targeted funding for these projects.
As of 2019, plans have been created for all Lucas County HUC-12 subwatersheds! These are living documents and can be updated as new data and projects become available. Click on a watershed above to see its name and a link to the watershed plan, or see the full list of Nine-Element Plans here.
