Area Conservation Technician Position

The Lucas Soil & Water Conservation District is seeking a full-time, motivated candidate for the position of a Western Lake Erie Basin Area Conservation Technician. This individual will promote, assist, and educate farmers and landowners about best management practices for maintaining clean water, healthy soils, and a sustainable landscape. This individual will orchestrate the development of nutrient management plans and/or conservation management plans, develop landowner workshops, instruct formal and informal classes, and provide a variety of technical assistance to SWCD staff and partners in order to reduce nutrient and sediment runoff and positively impact water quality.
A strong understanding of the agriculture industry, plant nutrition, nutrient and manure management, and its governing legislation is required. Experience is desired in experimental design, data collection, applied research, and demonstration projects. Associate Degree or higher in environmental sciences, natural resources, agronomy, or a related water quality field is preferred; must be able to pass a background check and random drug testing, carry 40 pounds, and maintain a valid Ohio driver’s license, insurance, and good driving record. Salary dependent on experience and is grant based.
