Watershed Work
It's true for every person on this planet: wherever you live, you live in a watershed. And if you live in Lucas County, you live in a watershed full of unique and valuable landscapes -- from the globally rare Oak Openings and prime farmland on century-old family farms to the shores of Lake Erie, one of the world's largest sources of freshwater and the Great Lakes' most productive fishery.
We work to develop projects that balance all of our resources through education, cooperation, and local decision-making.

Nine-Element Watershed Planning
There are twenty-eight HUC-12 subwatersheds in Lucas County and local, state and federal groups are working to create comprehensive plans to improve water quality in each one. The plans use past water sampling data to highlight areas of unhealthy streams, identify the reasons, and propose projects on the landscape that can prevent polluted runoff. Lucas SWCD and other watershed groups can then seek targeted funding for these projects.
As of 2019, plans have been created for all Lucas County HUC-12 subwatersheds! These are living documents and can be updated as new data and projects become available. Click on a watershed above to see its name and a link to the watershed plan, or see the full list of Nine-Element Plans here.
