Tenmile Creek Shull Streambank Stabilization Project - Berkey, Ohio
Projected Timeline: Fall 2024 - Summer 2025Construction has begun on the Tenmile Creek - Shull Streambank Stabilization Project in Berkey. Lucas Soil and Water Conservation District, in partnership with EnviroScience and River Reach Construction, will stabilize the eroding streambank and restore the reach with riffle enhancements and floodplain expansions. Native trees and grasses will also be planted to help stabilize and add wildlife habitat.
This project will address the Degradation of Benthos and Loss of Fish and Wildlife Habitat Beneficial Use Impairments for the Maumee Area of Concern and is fully funded through the H2Ohio Program. |
Construction Progress:
February 10-14, 2025: The crew began with installing riffles 1 and 2, and started placing rocks at the base of the slope to begin the stabilization process.
March 10-14, 2025: The crew continued their efforts to stabilize the streambank with added rocks and logs, and matting. They also graded the floodplain areas and added matting to secure the soil.
The Lucas SWCD Board and staff went to the project site and met with the crew to talk about the progress already made and next steps.

March 16-21, 2025: The weekend prior featured heavy rain events and the property owners captured this and the newly-formed floodplain in action on March 16th. Once the water level lowered, the crew resumed work which included grading the spoil area and adding more woody features to the floodplain. Live stakes were on-site ready to be planted.
